The story of Bell Bottom finds its base from incidences of passenger plane hijackings in the 80s. At that time, Sonia Gandhi was the prime minister, and India was facing a plane hijack one after the other. The country had to pay heavily monetarily with the release of terrorists in exchange for releasing its hijacked citizens. Akshay Kumar as Anshul Malhotra is the raw agent in the movie. He saves the passengers of the hijacked plane and helps to capture the terrorists who hijacked the plane.

The happily living love marriage life with Vani Kapoor as Radhika in the movie, Anshul Malhotra had never dreamt of serving the Nation as a raw agent under the code name “Bell Bottom.” What inspires Anshul Malhotra (Akshay Kumar) to become Raw-Agent is the demise of his mother, Dolly Ahluwalia, in one such plane hijack.
